Apple to expand manufacturing facilities in China

Telecom Lead Asia: Devices major Apple is planning to
expand its manufacturing facilities in China.

 

Apple’s contract manufacturer, Foxconn will invest $ 210
million to build an Apple production line.

Foxconn Technology will invest $ 210 million to build an Apple production line
in October in east China’s Jiangsu province.

The plant housing the production line, to be located in Huai’an city, will
produce components for American multinational corporation, Apple.

Foxconn, which is a contract manufacturer for a number of top international
electronic brands including Apple, Sony, Dell etc is a Taiwanese company which
has its largest network of plants in China employing lakhs of people.

The new plant, covering an area of 40,000 square meters, plans to hire 35,800
employees.

The annual output value of the plant is expected to reach 6 to 7 billion yuan
($ 949 million to $ 1.1 billion) and the import and export value will be $ 55.8
million, the office said.

Foxconn Technology will also build a high-tech manufacturing base in Hainan,
China’s southernmost island province early April.

 

Apple in talks with Chinese officials to improve tablet
presence

 

Recently, Apple chief executive Tim Cook has conducted
discussions with senior government officials in China to improve the company’s
business potential in the world’s largest mobile market.


Apple has only five stores although it also retails through more than 100
resellers. China is Apple’s second-biggest market overall, but Apple has
been losing ground to Samsung in smartphones and yet to launch the latest version
of its iPad in China. In Q4 2011, Apple captured three quarters of China’s
tablet PC market, while its iPhone ranked fifth in the country’s smartphone
sector. 

 

Apple’s main rival – Samsung – will invest $41 billion in
2012.

The investments will be in everything from building
factories to research and development activities to doing mergers and
acquisitions and hiring.
