India telecom budget wish list from Pradeep Jain, MD, Karbonn Mobiles

Telecom Lead India: The Indian mobile industry is going
through a phase of transformation and to make this transformation a reality we
wish for a warm co-operation from the government with responsive policy
measures in the upcoming Union Budget. Pradeep Jain, MD, Karbonn Mobiles, has
shared his wish list of telecom budget.

A few suggestions which will help in the growth of the
Mobile industry of India and will help in sustaining the phenomenal growth this
sector has seen would be:

Seeking from the government a cut in taxes on mobile
phone brands of Indian origin which will help the Indian phone makers to
compete well with the international competition.

We shall also seek from the government rebates in state
rates for importing raw and finished goods from offshore clients based on which
we will be able to pass on more value-for-money product range to the consumer.

A request goes out to the Finance Minister to forward the
industry, liberated land usage on which by setting up indigenous plants the
Indian mobile makers can produce more cost effective mobile phones.

As the draft on National Policy on Electronics-2011 which
declares mobile phones being ” goods of national importance” has already
been presented, we also wish to seek from the government the standardization of
state tax as given for import along with access levy’s which needs to be
brought down to the lowest slab.

We would also request the Finance Minister for tax cuts
on the import of raw materials which will help in reducing the production costs
of hand held devices.

As an impetus to the Indian mobile makers, we finally
wish that the government pitches in with rebates for setting up of indigenous
plants which will help the Indian mobile manufacturers in bringing out more
value for money products to empower the telecom boom in the country.
