Xiaomi achieves highest growth of 30% vs 6% for Samsung

The latest Canalys report said Xiaomi closed the year 2021 with over 191 million smartphones shipped as compared with 149.6 million in 2020. The smartphone share of Xiaomi has increased to 14 percent in 2021 from 12 percent in 2020.

The latest IDC report said Xiaomi shipped 191 million smartphones in 2021 and 45 million units in Q4 2021 for 14.1 percent and 12.4 percent share, respectively.

Despite a slight year-over-year decline in shipments, Apple had an impressive holiday quarter, once again jumping above Samsung into the top spot. Its strength in supply chain was on display more than ever in 4Q21.

While Xiaomi had the highest annual growth reaching almost 30 percent, Samsung had the lowest, just 6.0 percent growth in 2021. This contrast illustrates which vendor benefitted the most from the massive decline of Huawei this year, said Ryan Reith, group vice president with IDC’s Worldwide Mobile Device Trackers.

The latest Strategy Analytics report said Xiaomi has shipped 45 million units of smartphones and took third place with 12 percent global smartphone market share in Q4 2021, up slightly from 11 percent a year ago.

Xiaomi has benefitted from the withdrawal of Huawei, Yiwen Wu, Senior Analyst at Strategy Analytics, said. Xiaomi has shipped 190 million smartphones in 2021 grabbing 14 percent share in the global phone market.

Xiaomi has refreshed its flagship lineup and drove shipments up sequentially to 13.5 million units to maintain fourth place in China.

“Throughout 2021, Chinese vendors have made notable progress in their high-end production lines, such as the OPPO Find X3, Xiaomi Mi 12, vivo X70, and HONOR Magic3. In addition, foldable smartphones have provided a highly differentiated form factor and experience for Android vendors to compete with Apple,” Canalys Research Analyst Amber Liu said.
