Qualcomm intros Snapdragon 8+ chipset for gaming smartphones

Qualcomm announced the launch of Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 mobile platforms for premium Android smartphones focused on gaming and connectivity.

Qualcomm does not reveal the price of Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and Snapdragon 7 chipset for the gaming smartphones.

Smartphone makers such as ASUS ROG, Black Shark, HONOR, iQOO, Lenovo, Motorola, Nubia, OnePlus, OPPO, OSOM, realme, RedMagic, Redmi, vivo, Xiaomi, and ZTE are expected to use Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and launch their devices in Q3 2022.

Snapdragon 8+ chipset, which comes with an improved Qualcomm Adreno GPU, offers up to 10 percent more speed and 30 percent power reduction for gaming smartphones.

Smartphone users can expect up to 60 extra minutes of game with Snapdragon 8+ chipset. Qualcomm said its Snapdragon 8+ features Qualcomm Kryo CPU with up to 10 percent faster processing and up to 30 percent improvement in power efficiency.

“In the mobile segment, our focus is to deliver groundbreaking features and technologies to the industry, and for our customers’ flagship devices,” said Christopher Patrick, senior vice president and general manager, mobile handsets, Qualcomm.

Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 features the latest technologies like 8K HDR video recording, and is capable of capturing in the premium HDR10+ format.

Phone makers including HONOR, OPPO, and Xiaomi are expected to use Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset and launch their gaming smartphones in Q2 2022.

Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, which comes with improved Adreno GPU, delivers more than 20 percent faster graphics rendering.

This platform also supports an immersive Quad HD+ Display and amplified audio featuring anti-howling for multi-player gaming.

It features a Qualcomm Spectra triple ISP enabling users to shoot simultaneously from three cameras or take photos at 200MP.
