Fibrecomm selects Ciena 40G to enhance capacity and flexibility of Malaysian Network

By
Telecom Lead Team:
Fibrecomm Network, Malaysia’s network
carrier has deployed Ciena solution featuring advanced optical technologies
that include 40G, OTN switching and directionless ROADMs to expand its network
infrastructure.

Fibrecomm is offering a focused range of
connectivity and application services designed to cater the needs of Fibrecomm,
including wavelength, bandwidth, IP, Ethernet and colocation and project
management and consultancy services.

Fibrecomm’s backbone network expansion, spans across
Peninsula Malaysia and East Malaysia – Sabah to connect the northern and
southern portions of the network. Deployment began in December and already
includes several live network segments.

Malaysia is experiencing a growing demand for capacity,
driven by the rapid evolution of information and communication technology.
Fibrecomm selected Ciena’s advanced optical technologies provide a more
reliable and agile network infrastructure that can meet our customers’ needs
where 10G is barely enough to fulfill the continuous demand,” said Ang Meng
Hee, CEO, Fibrecomm Network.

By deploying Ciena’s 40G solution using WaveLogic
coherent technology, Fibrecomm is able to cost-effectively add significant
network capacity without the need for a major network redesign.

Ciena‘s
WaveLogic chipset allows Fibrecomm to deploy the 40G solution without the
requirement for fiber characterization or network reengineering.

Project rollout and deployment of this network
enhancement is jointly managed by Fibrecomm and Formis, a regional
Ciena BizConnect partner based in Malaysia.

Our close cooperation with Formis to expand Fibrecomm’s
network highlights the significant potential in the Malaysian market, which is
estimated to have strong growth in total broadband connections over the next
few years. Ciena’s Intelligent Packet-Optical solutions give Fibrecomm
additional capacity and the ability to scale to meet their customer needs,”
said Anthony McLachlan, VP and general manager, Asia Pacific, Ciena.

Recently,  UNET,
a Dutch information and communications services provider selected Ciena Carrier
Ethernet Solutions (CES) for expanding and upgrading its metro and access
network.
