Nokia in fiber optic network deal with Xiaomi

Xiaomi smartphone in India and ChinaNokia announced that it is providing fiber optic network to Xiaomi, a top smartphone company and Internet service provider in China, to link its 7 data centers in Beijing.

The new network will enable Xiaomi to reduce bottlenecks in its data transport network and bring higher-speed, lower latency Internet services to its customers.

The fiber optic network deal reflects Nokia’s strategy to expand its customer base to organizations outside of the telecommunications market.

Nokia is providing its data center interconnect (DCI) solution, based on the company’s 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) and managed by the Network Services Platform. The 1830 PSS DWDM platform delivers the capacity, security and control for enterprise data center networks.

Nokia’s DCI solution is enabling Xiaomi to connect its data centers to establish a private cloud to support its internal data management needs.

Nokia provides DCI solutions to large enterprises such as financial institutions, healthcare providers and webscale companies.

“This initiative is enabling Xiaomi to maximize network capacity, address traffic demands and enjoy the flexibility of the cloud with the security, reliability and performance of a private network,” said Drazen Lukic, head of China IP and Optical Networks Business Group at Nokia.
