NSN to unveil #1GBperday$ portfolio additions for mobile broadband players

Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) will make #1GBperday$ portfolio additions to assist mobile broadband players.

These announcements will be during October.

Along with enhancements in LTE-Advanced, TD-LTE and Heterogeneous Networks (HetNets), the mobile broadband solutions provider will showcase new solutions for simplifying operations and extracting the full value from Customer Experience Management.

Analysys Mason on Monday said it would expect a more-balanced global LTE market to emerge by 2018, in which markets such as Brazil, India and Russia will each account for 5 percent of LTE connections worldwide.

Recently, Infonetics Research said that Ericsson, one of the main rivals of NSN, is leading the LTE equipment market in the second quarter of 2013. Huawei, Alcatel-Lucent and NSN are in the next positions.

According to Infonetics Research, the global LTE revenue grew 17 percent quarter-over-quarter and 119 percent year-over-year in the second quarter of 2013 to $3.3 billion. ( Ericsson leads LTE equipment market in second quarter 2013: Infonetics )

As per today’s announcement, NSN will showcase expertise in telecoms cloud and security, key enablers for mobile broadband growth.

NSN is introducing innovations such as cloud-ready application management that can be deployed on open, standards-based hardware using telecom-specific cloud platforms. This innovation gives telecom operators the option of choosing the most competitive hardware and cloud platform for their specific needs.

Other telecoms cloud innovations from NSN will bring network operations into the cloud era.

Meanwhile, Alcatel-Lucent on Tuesday announced CloudBand Ecosystem Program. The new initiative is to advance industry adoption of Network Functions Virtualization (NFV). CloudBand Ecosystem Program will be the first open community of service providers, developers and vendors adopting NFV.

“In several live cloud trials and demonstrations with global operators, we have taken major steps forward in virtualizing network functions such as IMS and TAS, which are required for VoLTE, as well as HSS front-end and Evolved Packet Core. Our Liquid Net is cloud technology in action, and we have also implemented cloud enhancements for radio networks and Liquid Applications,” said Phil Twist, head of Portfolio Marketing at NSN.

Reinventing telecoms for the cloud is also one of the six pillars of NSN’s Technology Vision 2020, which was launched in June.

The second focus area of the #1GBperday$ announcements is security, which is important as operators look for new ways to protect their IP-based networks and meet regulatory requirements. Secure networks open up new business opportunities for operators targeting business customers. NSN provides 3GPP-compliant security across mobile broadband networks.
