AT&T brings low cost IoT Starter Kit, professional services

American wireless major AT&T today announced IoT professional services and low cost IoT Starter Kit to boost its Internet of Things (IoT) business.

Global businesses are making investment in IoT solutions to improve efficiencies, add new revenue streams, lower operating costs and enhance customer satisfaction.

Market research agency IDC says IoT spending on hardware, software, services, and connectivity will reach $737 billion in 2016.

IoT spending, according to IDC, will experience a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15.6 percent over the 2015-2020 forecast period to $1.29 trillion in 2020. China and the United States will be making investment in IoT solutions to account for double-digit annual growth rates and over half of the IoT spending.

AT&T’s new IoT services include professional, managed, and consulting service to help businesses accelerate IoT solutions.

AT&T’s IoT consulting services include IoT business and technology strategy planning, innovation assessment, development of an acceleration strategy, and a long term roadmap that defines architecture, timelines, budget requirements and execution plans.

AT&T offers support through the entire lifecycle. This includes device and SIM management, billing support, customized reporting, assisted trouble-ticket resolution, staff training and more.

AT&T said it has more than 2,900 types of connected devices certified for its network. AT&T connected more than 30 million devices as of the third quarter of 2016. AT&T is reducing the time and cost for businesses to gain certification for new devices.

The AT&T IoT Starter Kit, which provides tools and services to prototype new IoT solutions, bundled with a data plan gave a one-stop shop to developers.

AT&T is also introducing a dedicated kit for the AWS IoT service. AT&T has tied up Avnet to make both developer kits.

The kit includes LTE Cat-1 modem; SIM with 300 MB of prepaid data good for 6 months in the US & Mexico; Two antennas; Two USB cables and a USB plug; NXP K64F development board and microSD card for storing security credentials and configuration.

AT&T’s low cost LTE IoT Add-on Kit includes all the cellular components of the original AT&T IoT Starter Kit, but eliminates the host controller board. The new kit, available for $59, is a lower cost alternative to the original AT&T IoT Starter Kit, which retails for $99.
