China Mobile adds 21.13 mn 4G and 142 mn IoT connections

China Mobile said its operating revenue fell 0.6 percent to RMB389.4 billion during the first half of 2019.

China Mobile posted EBITDA of RMB151.1 billion, up by 3.6 percent and net profit of RMB56.1 billion, down by 14.6 percent.

China Mobile added 9.98 million mobile customers to take the number to 935 million during the first half.

Total number of wireline broadband customers was 175 million, representing a net addition of 18.20 million, China Mobile said.

China Mobile’s capital expenditure (Capex) was RMB85.2 billion mainly focusing on the expansion of 4G network and 5G network.

26.4 percent on transmission networks, 12.1 percent on business networks and support systems and 8.1 percent on buildings & infrastructure & power system.

China Mobile is planning to spend RMB 166 billion towards Capex in 2019 as compared with RMB 167 billion in 2018. The planned RMB 166 billion Capex for 2019 also includes its investment in 5G network.

The total number of 4G customers reached 734 million, with a net addition of 21.13 million customers during the first half of 2019.

China Mobile added 142 million net new Internet of Things (IoT) smart connections, driving the total number of connections to 693 million. China Mobile said its revenue from IoT rose 43.8 percent to RMB5.2 billion.

China Mobile has spent 52.7 percent of its first half Capex on mobile communication networks, 26.4 percent on transmission networks, 12.1 percent on business networks and support systems and 8.1 percent on buildings & infrastructure & power system.

China Mobile is planning to spend RMB 166 billion towards Capex in 2019 as compared with RMB 167 billion in 2018. The planned RMB 166 billion Capex for 2019 also includes its investment in 5G networks that will be launched in 2019.

China Mobile is planning to keep 47.6 percent of its total Capex on mobile communication networks, 29.5 percent on transmission networks, 14.6 percent on business networks and support systems and 7.1 percent on buildings & infrastructure & power system for the full year of 2019.

4G data traffic per user per month increased 132.5 percent to 7.1 GB.

To drive operational convergence, we have accelerated the build-out of our network-wide Mobile Cloud to establish high-speed Internet connectivity amongst cloud resource pools. The company launched a project to build a cloud-based network resource pool. The aim of this project is to add 18 network elements that have proven commercialisation potential in the cloud for centralised development.
