Pankaj Sethi, president of Tata Teleservices steps down; to start consulting business

Pankaj Sethi, president and head of Tata Teleservices
Maharashtra, the listed arm of Tata Teleservices, has stepped down.

In the apex leadership team at Tata Teleservices, Pankaj
played a leading role in strategic development and service areas of mobile
value added services and m commerce. 

Pankaj led the institutional capability development at Tata Teleservices
through teams in excellence, process management, CRM, audit, risk oversight and
governance.

Last year,
Tata Teleservices reshuffled the top management ahead of its 3G launches.

As part of the reshuffle, president of corporate services,
Pankaj Sethi, moved out of Tata Teleservices to head Tata Teleservices
Maharashtra, a listed arm of Tata Teleservices.

Anil Sardana also moved out of Tata Teleservices. The
stepping down of Pankaj is happening at a time when the market is undergoing tough
competition in the 3G market. Several mobile operators are in the process of
downsizing its resources in order to improve profitability.

In 2010-11, Tata Teleservices Maharashtra posted total
revenues of Rs 2249 crore, showing an 8 percent growth. Data and VAS revenue of
the company account for around 27 percent of wireless revenue. Pankaj was
instrumental in improving the VAS revenue of Tata Teleservices.

Last year, the company focused on increasing its retail
presence in Maharashtra and Goa circles. Its total subscribers were 17 million
during the last fiscal, registering a growth of 30 percent.

As a recognized industry leader in mobile value added
services, mobile advertising and mobile commerce, Pankaj is a keen participant
in thought leadership forums and global industry seminars.

Before joining Tata Teleservices Maharashtra in 2010, Pankaj
held positions like president – Corporate Strategy & Services and president
– Value Added Services & Enterprise Planning at Tata Teleservices. Before
the Tata group, Pankaj worked with Mukta Arts, Microland, Nimbus
Communications, etc.

Pankaj is said to be moving to the consultancy space. He is
the director and founder at Third Vue Consulting. He will also be the advisor –
Strategic Initiatives at Bakrie Telecom.
