Spectrum auction: Day 2 sees bids of Rs 56,792 crore

The India government received commitments of Rs 56,792 crore from telecom operators on Monday, the second day of the auction for airwaves, during the spectrum auction.

Telecom network operators such as Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, Idea Cellular, Vodafone, etc. did not bid for 700 MHz and 900 MHz bands during the spectrum auction that started on October 1.

There were fresh six rounds of bidding on Day 2 of India’s biggest spectrum auction. The total rounds of bidding after Day 2 stood at 11, IANS reported.

Day 1 saw over Rs 53,000 crore commitments from telecom operators after five rounds of bidding.

The Indian telecom industry has been looking for cheap spectrum to sustain in the business in the long-run. But the India government is considering spectrum as a tool to mobilize funds for meeting financial obligations.
