Vodafone India faces Rs 1,263 crore penalty for under reporting of revenues

Telecom Lead Asia: Vodafone India is facing Rs 1,263 crore penalty for under reporting of revenues.

The department of telecom (DoT) has imposed a fresh penalty of Rs 1,263 crore for allegedly under reporting revenues during financial years 2008-09 and 2010-11, PTI reported.

The notice has been given on Monday. Vodafone has been asked to pay within 15 days.

The PTI report said the exact break-up of penalty imposed on the company for each financial year could not be ascertained.

Based on telecom licenses, telecom operators are required to pay license fee and spectrum usage on adjusted gross revenue (AGR) which earned from telecom services only.

DoT found that adjusted revenue filed by company were not appropriate.

In addition, the telecom operator is also in dispute with DoT over its 3G intra-circle roaming agreement with Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular. Though they have challenged DoT’s order on the 3G pact, Vodafone could face penalty in this case as well.

Vodafone India is also facing $2 billion plus tax case currently and it is in the process of negotiating with the telecom minister Kapil Sibal and team.
