Jio’s VoLTE without CSFB, 2G, 3G is a world’s first

Mukesh Ambani on Reliance Jio digital life
Anuj Jain, president, Networks at Reliance Jio Infocomm says Jio’s 4G network offered free voice services in India using 100 percent VoLTE.

This is the first time in the world that a telecom operator is offering voice services without CSFB / 2G / 3G networks. “Today we are pumping 2 billion minutes of usage per day. We are working every day to improve the experience and manage the exponential growth of subscribers. All IP network is the only way to achieve it,” said Anuj Jain in a post on LinkedIn.

Samsung and Nokia are the main technology partners for Reliance Jio network. Jio this week said it has more than 100 million subscribers on its 4G network.

Despite the achievements, there is a strong apprehension about the voice quality of the 4G network by Reliance Jio.

Jio and innovation

Reliance Jio, an all-India telecom operator promoted by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, achieved the big milestone thanks to its approach towards innovation.

Jio could add several 4G customers on daily basis thanks to its revolutionary SIM activation process through an Aadhar based eKYC solution.

Jio said its proprietary app Jio4GVoice and its Jiofy Wifi devices are enabling 3G and 2G smartphone users to enjoy a 4G voice and data environment without making investment in a new handset.

“A series of similarly thoughtful, customer-oriented solutions and applications have helped create a unique digital life experience for Indian consumers and added to the excitement for the Jio offering,” said Mukesh Ambani recently.

Reliance Jio network could handle 100 crore GB of data traffic per month and 200 crore voice and video minutes a day. “Jio has become the largest network globally in terms of data carried and contributed to India becoming the leading country in the world for mobile data usage,” Mukesh Ambani said.

Jio said its wireless subscribers are consuming nearly as much 4G data as the USA and 50 percent more data than China. Telecom operators such as China Mobile, AT&T, Verizon, etc. could not achieve this milestone. Social media giant Facebook last month said Jio’s free offers have fuelled its growth in Q4 2016.

Jio is also trying to introduce cost effective featue phones that can support its mobile data network. This is because Reliance Jio does not want to rely on the growth of 4G smartphone users for its growth.

Jio 4G Network

Jio’s network has 2x 4G base stations when compared to all other Indian operators put together. By the end of 2017, the Jio network will be present in nearly all the cities, towns and villages — covering 99 percent of population in India.

Jio provides an average speed of 9.8 Mbps as against incumbents range of 4.2 to 5.9 Mbps, reports by TRAI’s speed analytics portal said.

Jio added 7 new members per second, every single day for the last 170 days, enabling it to cross the 100 million mark within 6 months of starting the free 4G services. Reliance Jio is promising that its network will be doubled in coming months.
