Mobile World Congress: Airspan integrates carrier Wi-Fi with LTE small cell solution

By Telecom
Lead Team:
  Airspan Networks,
a provider of 4G broadband wireless access networks, has integrated
its carrier-grade Wi-Fi with its unique small cell LTE solution.

Airspan’s small cell AirSynergy and flagship Air4G base
stations are being demonstrated at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

The company said that the enhanced solution is the only
small cell solution supporting both LTE and Wi-Fi radio interfaces
simultaneously with integrated non-line-of-sight (NLOS) backhaul technology
that enables the rapid deployment of outdoor infrastructure.

The newly integrated solution is designed for
carriers wanting to deploy one network that contains LTE Pico cells for
implementing LTE-Advanced Heterogeneous Networks (HetNets) and Carrier Wi-Fi
for data offload from congested 3G mobile networks.

“We have incorporated our proven, industrial-grade
Wi-Fi technology into our LTE offering allowing carriers to build a single
network for both LTE HetNet and outdoor carrier Wi-Fi deployments. Uniquely,
our single platform includes the critical small cell backhaul solution that is
missing in every other vendor solution,” said Paul Senior, chief technical
officer at Airspan Networks.

Airspan has also announced the addition of a new high
performance Outdoor Access Point that integrates Airspan’s iBridge backhaul
technology with carrier-grade Wi-Fi access.

This new combined solution enables carriers to
deploy cost-effective, higher capacity networks while better serving their user
base with higher throughput and Wi-Fi connectivity.

The company added that the addition of the Wi-Fi
portfolio will allow carriers to consider an integrated approach to their 4G
network deployments. Airspan’s Wi-Fi products have been deployed extensively in
various heavy-use industries including mining, oil and gas, and transportation
systems.

Recently, AfriConnect Zambia,
an Internet solutions provider in the Vodacom Group of companies selected
Airspan 4G equipment to deliver broadband services in Lusaka and other
major cities in Zambia.
