Akamai joins OpenStack community to add global application performance

Akamai
Technologies, a provider of cloud optimization services, announced that the
company has joined the OpenStack community.

Akamai
plans to provide the OpenStack community with advice and guidance on best
practices for platform design and architecture to help overcome the
availability, delivery, performance, and scale challenges inherently faced by
globally distributed cloud infrastructures and applications.

“Acceleration,
optimization, and control of distributed cloud computing environments are core
to our business at Akamai. We’re bringing that experience to the OpenStack
community as they create a robust foundation for cloud computing
adoption,” said Andy Champagne, vice
president, Products and Technology, Akamai.

“Our
goal with participation in the community is to help position OpenStack to
address the control, scale and performance challenges that come with delivering
globally distributed enterprise class applications,” Champagne added.

“Having
a market leader such as Akamai join the OpenStack community is the latest
example of the power an open platform approach to cloud computing can
generate,” said Mark Collier, VP,
Rackspace Cloud Builders.

OpenStack
is a community of more than 100 companies, including Rackspace, NASA, HP,
Cisco, Dell, and Citrix, coming together to create a massively scalable cloud
operating system. Formed in mid-2010, the community now exceeds 1,500
registered individuals and Akamai supports the project in an advisory role.
