Vodafone Essar deploys new VAS platform from ZTE

ZTE Corporation announced that it has built and deployed
an advanced VAS Platform for Vodafone Essar in India.

Vodafone customers
can avail the Vodafone Newswrap, a Mobile Newspaper service offering the latest
news and happenings from around the world, right on their mobile phones. The
introduction of the service will play a key role in enhancing VAS revenues for
Vodafone Essar.

As a part of the project, ZTE India
has created the MNS & MMSC platforms, under a revenue-sharing model for the
first time. This heralds a new dimension for ZTE’s business in India as it
expands its focus from being an equipment provider to also emerge as an
end-to-end VAS solutions provider. The company is aggressively expanding its
capabilities in the VAS segment as it focuses on winning a substantial share of
the upcoming Value Added Service projects in the country.

We are extremely happy that our first long-term
partnership on a revenue-sharing model in India is with Vodafone Essar and look
forward to further strengthening this association,” said Cui Liangjun, CEO, ZTE
India, in a statement.

The success of the mobile newspaper project serves to
highlight ZTE’s focus on addressing the end-to-end requirements of Indian
telecom operators and emerge as their preferred partner. We will continue to
expand our VAS offerings and will aggressively focus on attaining leadership in
the segment by offering innovative VAS solutions,” Liangjun added.

With the rapid increase in the number of mobile phone
subscribers in India, mobile newspapers are fast emerging as a preferred mode
for receiving news and updates. This is primarily on account of the anytime,
anywhere access to news offered along with advantages in dissemination of news
and quick updates.

While news updates have been available on mobiles, this
is the first time that a mobile newspaper service via MMS has been deployed
commercially by any operator in the country. ZTE has utilised its extensive
experience of mobile newspaper systems globally to offer the service in the
Indian market.
