Blue Coat Systems leads secure web gateway market in 2011

solutions provider Blue Coat Systems is leading the Secure Web Gateway market
in 2011.


Blue Coat has 17 percent market share in the $1.95 billion
Secure Web Gateway market, which combines both appliances and software
solutions.


In the appliance segment of the market, Blue Coat has
more than 44 percent of the market, surpassing its closest competitor by more
than 30 percentage points, according to Gartner.


“The adoption of bring your own device initiatives,
cloud-based applications and social networking within the enterprise are
eliminating traditional security boundaries and fundamentally changing how
businesses need to secure their networks,” said Steve Daheb, chief
marketing officer and senior vice president, Blue Coat Systems.


Blue Coat claims that its Unified Security solution
enables the extended enterprise to expand its secure perimeter to all users on
devices across the network by delivering Global Threat Defense, Universal
Policy and Unified Reporting across its Blue Coat ProxySG appliances and its
Internet-based Blue Coat Cloud Service.


According to the Blue Coat 2012 Web Security Report,
companies face an average of 5,000 Web threats each month.


Blue Coat said its WebPulse collaborative defense has
comprehensive visibility into Web and malnet (malware network) ecosystems. By
tracking and understanding the malnet infrastructures that are embedded in the
Internet with the express purpose of launching ongoing attacks on unsuspecting
users, Moreover, WebPulse can provide a Negative Day Defense
that blocks attacks at their source before they launch. Currently, Blue Coat is
tracking more than 500 individual malnets.
