Broadcom inks technology license agreement with MIPS Technologies

Telecom Lead America: Broadcom Corporation, a provider of
semiconductor solutions, has inked a multi-year patent and technology license
agreement with MIPS Technologies.

The patent and technology license agreement is worth of
$26.5 million, including other consideration.


Under the agreement, MIPS Technologies has given
non-exclusive worldwide license to Broadcom. The worldwide license provides
Broadcom with access to patents owned or licensable by MIPS.


MIPS Technologies is a provider of industry-standard
processor architectures and cores for home entertainment, networking, mobile
and embedded applications.


Broadcom will use the patent and technology license for
the purpose of making, having made, using, selling, offering for sale, and
importing Broadcom products.


“This agreement demonstrates the strength and value
of our patent portfolio. In addition, we are pleased that Broadcom, MIPS’
largest customer, has extended its license of MIPS’ architectures and
cores,” said Sandeep Vij, chief executive officer, MIPS Technologies.


In addition to the patent and license agreement, Broadcom
has been granted a multi-year license extension to its current MIPS(R)
architecture and core licenses for MIPS-Based(TM) products, plus other
consideration.


As per an official release, MIPS Technologies has filed
an 8K about the agreement with the Securities and Exchange Commission.


Broadcom unveils energy efficient physical layer transceivers


A few months back, Broadcom expanded its Energy Efficient
Ethernet (EEE) portfolio with the launch of four energy efficient devices known
as 10/100/1000BASE-T physical layer transceivers (PHYs).
