Cable&Wireless sets up foundation to manage special needs

Cable&Wireless Worldwide announced its charitable
foundation. It has invited organisations and individuals to apply for funding
and support.

The Cable&Wireless Worldwide Foundation will enhance
the lives of those with special needs through its expertise in mission critical
communications, and will look to partner and build relationships with
institutions that support, research, develop or implement the appropriate,
specialist communication requirements.

By making the most of its resources, the company is also
aiming to offer communication solutions and services to organisations
supporting people with special needs, as well as working with experts to
understand how people’s lives can be enhanced and enabling colleagues to build
meaningful partnerships with relevant organisations.

This is a very special day for us and I’m proud to see
the introduction of the Cable&Wireless Worldwide Foundation,” said John Pluthero,
chairman of Cable&Wireless Worldwide and Trustee of the Foundation.
Starting the Foundation is a formal way to harness the fantastic public spirit
across our business. It’s a cohesive and global approach that provides the
platform to focus our efforts, expertise and funding to make a real difference
to people’s lives.”

Cable&Wireless Worldwide already contributes to many
community and charity activities and is part of the emergencySMS service that
enables deaf, hard of hearing and speech-impaired people in the UK send an SMS
to the UK 999 services. The introduction of the Foundation, however, will allow
the company to support a wider range of people and organisations with special
needs.

The board of the
Foundation consists of John Pluthero, chairman of Cable&Wireless Worldwide,
Kai Boschmann, Corporate Affairs director of Cable&Wireless Worldwide and
Philip Davis, general counsel and company secretary of Cable&Wireless
Worldwide. Head of Corporate Responsibility, Tracy O’Brien is Chair of the
Foundation Management Team.

Individuals and
organisations looking for funding should go to
Cable&Wireless.
