Telecoms market in Bolivia to grow 7.8% CAGR during 2014-2019

Telecoms market in Bolivia will grow at 7.8 percent CAGR between 2014 and 2019 – fuelled by broadband Internet and pay-TV, said Pyramid Research.

The telecoms market in Bolivia will generate $1.5 billion in 2019 from $1 billion in 2014. Currently, Bolivia is the fastest growing market in Latin America.

“As many telecom sectors in Bolivia are still significantly underdeveloped when compared to other countries in Latin America, there is abundant opportunity for growth within specific areas such as pay-TV,” said Marcelo Kawanami, senior analyst at Pyramid Research.

Bolivia had a broadband penetration rate of 2.1 percent in 2014. Since Bolivia has one of the slowest and most expensive Internet connections, many consumers have turned to smartphones for Internet services.

The penetration rate of mobile subscriptions has reached 96 percent in 2014. Mobile operators in Bolivia are highly focused on migrating their 2G users into 3G+ technologies to leverage mobile data revenue.

The pay-TV market in Bolivia will grow from a household penetration rate of 10.9 percent in 2014 to 27.1 percent in 2019, said Pyramid Research.

Pyramid Research said due to the increasing competition in the pay-TV space in Bolivia, telecom service providers are working on promotional pay-TV packages and bundled offers with discount rates, combining both broadband Internet and pay-TV in order to gain share in both segments.
